Maple Leaf Dairy Inc.

Manitowoc, WI: The Wisconsin Department of Justice filed charges against the dairy farm for allegedly violating its wastewater management permit and causing manure spills into Fischer Creek, a Lake Michigan tributary. The state claimed the Maple Leaf manure spills depleted game fish, degraded water quality, and destroyed habitat; at least 2,000 fish were found dead along 2½ miles of Fisher Creek. Maple Leaf will pay nearly $60,000 in fines - $22,000 for violating Wisconsin pollution discharge laws, $20,000 for stream restoration, $6,060 for investigative costs by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, and $2,625 for fish replacement.
