District of Columbia

Washington, DC: Two dozen tenants filed a civil rights lawsuit against the District claiming the city wrongfully evicted and threatened them to move. The lawsuit claimed the District unfairly condemned several buildings in the Columbia Heights and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods, which are largely Hispanic. In one case, a building was closed within 3 hours of eviction notices. The District of Columbia will pay a $700,000 settlement. (Dec-14-06) [WASHINGTON POST: EVICTIONS]
