East Baton Rouge, LA

East Baton Rouge - In August 2002, Mayor-President Bobby Simpson fired Human Resources Director Jerald Boykin. Boykin filed a lawsuit against the city parish for wrongful termination and racial discrimination. He claimed he was fired after publicly reporting a pattern of alleged racial and sexual discrimination within the East Baton Rouge Parish government. Boykin was fired one week after releasing an 18-page report indicating minorities held few high paying jobs and only 12% of the city parish's department head or top assistant positions. A Metro Council committee recommended approval of a proposed $75,000 settlement. (Sep-21-06) [THE ADVOCATE]
