Alcoa Inc. and Reynolds Metals Company

The city of Stamps, AR filed a federal lawsuit regarding contamination at a defunct aluminum recycling plant that continues to pollute groundwater. The lawsuit was filed against 16 companies that operated or used the plant, including Alcoa Inc. and Reynolds Metals Company. Red River Aluminum operated for 10 years as a secondary aluminum smelter. It closed in 1998 after repeatedly failing to comply with the federal Environmental Protection Agency's requirements. The city of Stamps is set to receive a $1.4 million settlement.
