Anthony Crane Rental

On August 26, 2000 Emilio Talavera was working with a construction crew at a Mitchell Gas Services plant near Bridgeport, TX. He and another worker were standing under a crane boom when a boom extension became dislodged and started falling toward the ground. When the crane operator shouted a warning to the workers below, Talavera pushed his co-worker to safety before being struck in the head by the falling boom. He died shortly thereafter. Talavera's wife and four children filed a lawsuit against the crane rental company for failing to properly maintain and inspect the equipment and modify the crane prior to the accident. Anthony Crane Rental, which operates under the name Maxim Crane Works, has agreed to pay a $3.1 million settlement. (Aug-23-06) [PR NEWSWIRE]
