Pinecrest Hospital and the Department of Health and Human Resources

Buster Lee Webb suffered a fractured hip when he was assaulted by another Pinecrest patient in July 2000. Webb died of a blood clot on November 26th, 2000. His sister filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. Raleigh Circuit Judge Robert Burnside approved a $300,000 settlement.
