Lake Compounce Amusement Park

On June 1, 2000 Deven Alexander was riding in an inner tube going down the "Lake Plunge" water slide when his tube flipped over and threw him into the lake. He died six days after the accident. Kyia Alexander filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the park on behalf of her 6-year-old son. The lawsuit claimed the park's owners, operators and employees were negligent and careless in permitting a dangerous, hazardous and unsafe condition at the water slide. The lawsuit also alleged that the ride did not have proper height restrictions, nor were life jackets required and park employees failed to see the boy was too small to ride without an adult. Lake Compounce Amusement Park in Bristol has agreed to pay a $1.2 million settlement to the boy's estate. (Aug-16-06) [BRISTOL PRESS]
