Warwick, RI

In 1989, detective Scott Hornoff was convicted of murdering Victoria Cushman. He spent six years in prison for allegedly killing his former lover until Todd Barry confessed to the murder in 2002. Hornoff was released from prison. He filed a lawsuit in Superior Court against the city of Warwick, seeking reinstatement to the city's police department. He also filed a lawsuit in Federal Court for an alleged civil rights violation stemming from his wrongful conviction. The city of Warwick has agreed to pay Hornoff a $600,000 settlement for his wrongful conviction. (Aug-16-06) [PROVIDENCE JOURNAL]
