Catholic Healthcare West

This is a settlement for the Healthcare Fraud & Healthcare Whistleblower Lawsuits lawsuit.

In 2005, a class action lawsuit brought about by Consejo de Latinos Unidos, claimed that Catholic Healthcare West overcharged uninsured patients compared with what it charges those who have insurance. A consortium of law firms accused the health care system of discriminatory practices against uninsured patients. Catholic Healthcare West, (CHW) San Francisco, agreed to provide retroactive financial assistance to approximately 700,000 to 850,000 uninsured patients treated at its hospitals after July 1, 2001, who were eligible for free or discounted care under a 2004 policy. As well, CHW also agreed to continue the policy. $1.3 million has been settled as one of two class action lawsuits. The second class action is pending. (Jun-14-06) [MODERN HEALTHCARE]
