LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION

Associated Newspapers Ltd.

Singer and songwriter Sir Elton John filed a libel lawsuit against the publisher of The Daily Mail. The newspaper printed an article claiming Sir Elton had asked guests not to approach him at his annual Tie and Tiara charity ball. The story implied the singer exhibited rude behavior bordering on paranoia at the charity fundraising event. In fact, Sir Elton greets each guest as they arrive and is well known for chatting to as many people as possible who attend the ball. The Daily Mail has agreed to pay Sir Elton John $188,000 in libel damages. (May-24-06) [MSNBC]
