Highland Hospital

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit against the institution on behalf of five hospital workers who are natives of Cuba and Puerto Rico. The lawsuit claimed Highland Hospital discriminated against its Hispanic housekeepers by subjecting them to rules requiring them to speak only English when they were in the hospital. Highland Hospital did not admit to any wrongdoing, but have agreed to a $200,000 settlement. (May-10-06) [ROCHESTER DEMOCRAT AND CHRONICLE]
