Conexant Systems Inc.

Texas Instruments Inc. and its rival communications chipmaker were in a legal dispute regarding patents for digital subscriber line, or DSL, technology. GlobespanVirata, which Conexant acquired in 2004, sued Texas Instruments for allegedly abusing the process for setting standards for ADSL technology. Texas Instruments countersued GlobespanVirata, alleging it infringed certain ADSL patents. Texas Instruments and Conexant Systems jointly reached a settlement, under which Conexant will pay $70 million to Texas Instruments in exchange for a license to certain patents for DSL technology.
