West Bend Houswares

The Consumer Product Safety Commission filed charges against the company for allegedly failing to report a hazard with a coffee-maker carafe. West Bend did not report problems with handles on its 10-Cup Coffeemaker Carafes and Replacement Carafes after it received reports of 169 handles breaking on the carafes between October 2004 and July 2005. These incidents resulted in at least two reports of burn and cut injuries. West Bend has agreed to pay a $100,000 penalty. (May-05-06) [ WASHINGTON TIMES ]
