Dollar General Corp.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filed charges against the company's chief financial officer Brian Burr alleging accounting fraud and insider trading. The lawsuit claimed Burr engaged in insider trading by exercising stock options in the weeks prior to an April 30, 2001 press release from the company announcing accounting irregularities and the need to restate earnings. The suit also alleged Burr wrongfully accounted for $13.4 million in import freight expenses. Without admitting or denying wrongdoing, Burr agreed to pay $1.2 million in civil penalties and is barred from serving as an officer or director of a public company for five years.
