In July 2002, 11-year-old Wesley Woods was riding his bicycle through the city's Extreme Park. He fell head first into a 12-foot concrete bowl and suffered brain damage. Wesley's family filed a personal injury lawsuit against Louisville Metro claiming it failed to set up warnings or safety barriers.
