Manitowoc County

In 1985, Steven Avery, was convicted of assault and spent 18 years in prison. In 2003, DNA evidence exonerated him. Avery filed a $36 million civil lawsuit against the county and former officials for wrongful imprisonment. Avery agreed to dismiss all claims against the county in return for $400,000.
