LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION

Rivergate Farms, Teton West and Inline Steel Erectors Inc.

Joseph McKinley was a refrigerator technician working for a subcontractor hired at the Tualatin Rivergate onion processing plant. On March 28, 2003, workers for Inline Steel, another subcontractor at the site, cut an access hole on the building's second level. The next day, McKinley fell 13 feet through the unmarked access hole. He suffered a fractured skull, brain swelling and a dislocated shoulder. McKinley filed a lawsuit against the companies for allegedly violating Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division regulations by not properly warning workers, installing railings or covering the hole. The three companies have agreed to pay a $1.1 million settlement. (Jan-28-06) [OREGON LIVE]
