LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION

Kansas City

Early one December morning in 2004, residents living near Red Bridge Road and Washington Street reported a water main break and warned that water was flowing over the roadway creating icy conditions. Later that same day, two young men were driving in that same location when their vehicle hit a large patch of ice. The vehicle flipped, ejecting high school graduate Sam Woodell and the driver. The accident killed Woodell and the driver was critically injured. Woodell's parents filed a lawsuit against the city claiming negligence in fixing the water main leak as soon as it was reported. The city of Kansas has agreed to award the family a $300,000 settlement for the wrongful death of their son. (Jan-13-06) [KANSAS CITY STAR]
