City of Scottsdale

On April 7, 2005, Cody Brett Morrison, Matthew Lewis, and Nicholas Rosin were in a car accident. Five Scottsdale police officers were in pursuit of David Szymanski when he drove the wrong way on Loop 101 and caused the accident. Twenty two year old Morrison was killed in the crash. His parents filed a wrongful death suit against the city claiming police violated a pursuit policy. The city of Scottsdale has awarded the Morrison family a $1 million wrongful death settlement. Lewis is set to receive $400,000 for his injuries and Rosin will receive $100,000. Szymanski awaits trial for first degree murder and other charges. (Dec-14-05)
