Western Farm Service

Dozens of residents from the small farming town of Arvin, California filed a lawsuit against the company after allegedly being poisoned by a soil fumigant. Western Farm Service incorrectly applied metam-sodium to Kirschenmann Farms fields on July 8, 2002. The chemical drifted through the residential neighborhood where more than 250 people were sickened. Western Farm Services has agreed to a $60,000 fine and will pay the 84 victims $500,000. Kirschenmann Farms will pay an additional $275,000 to the victims. (Nov-21-05) [MERCURY NEWS]
