LAWSUITS NEWS & LEGAL INFORMATION
This is a settlement for the DUI/DWI lawsuit.
On July 1, 2001, the 27 year old defendant and his finance Sherry Kurilew had been celebrating a friend's graduation at the Italian American Club of South Plainfield. After the party, King drove his Dodge Ram pickup into a car driven by Mary Ludlow. George Hurst was a passenger in Ludlow's car and died 20 days after the crash. King pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, assault by auto, and driving while intoxicated. He was sentenced to four years in prison. A lawsuit was filed against King and the Italian American Club. Hurst's family will receive a $300,000 settlement. Ludlow fractured her wrist and required reconstructive surgery to her right knee, including the placement of plates and screws. She will receive a $445,000 settlement. Since the crash, Sherry Kurilew married King and filed only for the purpose of collecting damages for her fractured pelvis. She was awarded $50,000 for her injuries. The Italian American Club agreed to pay $750,000 and King's insurance company accepted responsibility for the remaining $50,000.
