City of Chicago

On September 26, 1997, police questioned Jeremiah Mearday about the shooting of a police officer. Mearday claimed police brutality and two police officers associated with the incident were fired. In 1998, Mearday was arrested and charged with illegal drug possession and aggravated assault. He filed a lawsuit against the city claiming police harassed him after he filed the original report and planted the drugs. In 2002, the city admitted liability of the beating and dropped all charges; Mearday was recently awarded a $1.75 million settlement for police harassment. (Oct-03-05) [SCIENCE DAILY]
