Allegheny County

Children, Youth and Families caseworker, Penne Fabian, was fired on October 23, 2003. She claimed her role in the company was terminated after resisting the Human Services Director's demand to whitewash a report to the state detailing the frequency of social worker visits to troubled families. Fabian filed a whistleblower lawsuit against the county and director Marc Cherna, who allegedly "wanted her to delete information that the agency was making only 42% of the home visits it was required to perform each month. Cherna wanted the information removed because it was too much of a sound bite and the media would be all over it." Allegheny County has agreed to pay Fabian a $154,000 settlement and reinstate her job as a caseworker at the Allegheny County Jail for inmates with children. (Sep-15-05) [PITTSBURG LIVE]
