Atlantic Richfield Co. et al.

The Milltown dam and reservoir lies where the Clark Fork and Blackfoot rivers meet. In 1996, an emergency release of water at the dam flushed copper concentrations down the river. Montana officials have reached a $100 million settlement to remove a century old structure. Atlantic Richfield Co. has agreed to pay $80 million of the removal cost while dam owner NorthWestern Corp. will contribute $11.4 million and the state will add $7.6 million.
