Brown Water Towing

At 2 am on September 15, 2001 a tow boat captain lost control of a string of barges. The current drove them into the Queen Isabella Causeway bridge support causing three 80 foot sections of bridge roadway to tumble into the bay. Motorists driving across the bridge to and from South Padre Island fell into the chasm and eight people were killed. Surviving relatives were awarded a $9 million wrongful death settlement.
