United States Federal Government

The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights filed a lawsuit against the government for denying access of a Kenyan refugee. In March 2001, Rosebell Munyua and her 2-year-old daughter arrived at the San Francisco Airport seeking political asylum. Immigration officers interrogated Munyua, refused her plea for asylum, and forced her onto the next plane back to Kenya. In 2002, she returned to the U.S. through Houston and was granted asylum. Rosebell now lives Santa Rosa as a certified nursing assistant and was awarded an $87,500 settlement. (Apr-28-05) [SIGN ON SAN DIEGO]
