United States Steel Corp

This is a settlement for the Asbestos Mesothelioma lawsuit.

A settlement has been reached for $50 million in a case, where a former steelworker suffered lung disease due to poisoning of asbestos due to negligence of the employer.

An employee named Whittington, who is 70 years old worked at U.S. Steel's Gary, Indiana, plant from 1950 to 1981. During the tenure of his employment, he was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a lung disease. The lung disease developed due to poisoning of asbestos.

United States Steel Corp. said it had reached a settlement $50 million with one of its former steelworkers regarding an asbestos poisoning suffered by the employee. The terms of settlement were not disclosed by the company.

A jury in Madison County, Illinois, had earlier awarded $250 million to Roby Whittington in respect of damages which included $50 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages. The United States Steel Corp did not disclose the terms of the settlement, but said the total amount was "substantially less" than the compensatory damages awarded.
