Owen Hart died May 23, 1999 during the "In Your House XXIX - Over The Edge" pay-per-view wrestling match, where he was scheduled to wrestle as Blue Blazer. Hart's lift harness failed while he was being lowered from the ceiling to the ring mat. Reporters said that he fell anywhere from 90 to 100 feet. Hart was taken from ringside by paramedics and pronounced dead at a local hospital. Hart was only 34. Hart's wife, Martha and his family won a settlement for wrongful death for $18 million.
