US Grant Resources

Attorney General Charles C. Foti Jr. along with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) recently announced the arrest of three individuals who were operating a phony grant procurement company out of New Orleans. The three individuals who were arrested, John B. Rodgers, Laurel A. Rodgers and Jason Martin agreed to a settlement of $500,000 with the Attorney General and the FTC. The Attorney General's Office and the FTC reached the settlement with the three perpetrators who operated US Grant Resources, a phony company that tricked consumers into thinking they were eligible for grant money. The ads offered people grants ranging from $500 to $500,000.

The FTC warned people across the country to be aware of the scheme and check out the credibility of a company before giving out personal information. The scheme was appealing to many people because of the false sense of receiving free money.

"Consumers would call in response to an ad advertising "FREE GRANTS" for education, home repair or new home purchase. The consumer would then give personal information to the operator and would be put on hold. The operator would come back and tell the consumer he or she was approved for a certain amount of grant money and all he or she had to do was send in a processing fee of up to $199.00," Foti said. "The Grants that were promised never came. Hundreds of consumers from around the country were tricked into paying anywhere from $95 to $200 for nothing more than a promise or a few papers telling them where they could write for grant information."
