Nike Inc.

A $1.5 million settlement has been reached in the free-speech lawsuit filed filed in 1998 claiming that the company lied in their public relations campaign refuting accusations of dire workplace conditions in Asian factories. The company claimed that they were truthful in the campaign, and that it was protected by the first amendment of the US constitution guaranteeing free speech. The settlement funds will go to the Fair Labour Association in Washington DC to fund workplace monitoring and worktraining programmes. (Sep-16-03) [PRESS RELEASE]
