of Piqua, Ohio has reached a $2.6 million settlement with the family of 8-1/2-month-old Jared Adams who died when his Happy Camper portable crib collapsed in April 1997. The boy was asphyxiated when a hinge on the crib's top rail collapsed and trapped his chest in the resulting "V-shaped" rails. At least 15 children have been killed in the United States due to problems with the Happy Camper and similar portable cribs. (Jul-20-03)
