Jefferson City, MO:A St. Louis Circuit Judge in 2016 ruled that an Essure lawsuit filed by 92 women against Bayer could proceed in Missouri, but now that may not be the case. All the plaintiffs claimed they suffered injuries after having the permanent birth control device implanted, and they contended that Bayer is subject to jurisdiction in this state because it does business, generates revenue and conducts marketing for Essure in Missouri.

Fresno, CA: The manufacturer of Monsanto Roundup is not taking any assertion, accurate or otherwise that Roundup causes cancer, lying down. To that end, Monsanto Co. has joined forces with other agricultural industry groups in a lawsuit aimed squarely at the State of California and the identification by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) that a key ingredient in Roundup is known to cause cancer.

Los Angeles, CA: Courts have reversed two talcum powder judgements against Johnson & Johnson. The talcum powder lawsuits involve a woman who was awarded $417 million in August and another case was awarded $72. Both women have died from ovarian cancer.

San Francisco, CA: On October 11, 2017, a group of Onglyza plaintiffs filed a Motion to Transfer with the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML). The motion seeks to consolidate the Onglyza lawsuits filed throughout the federal court system in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. At the time of filing, there were 44 lawsuits pending in 24 federal jurisdictions, all of which put forth virtually identical legal and factual theories. Plaintiffs foresee the possibility that hundreds of Onglyza and Kombiglyze (collectively referred to as “Onglyza” in the motion) lawsuits will be filed in the future.

Jefferson City, MO: A $72 million verdict in favor of the family of a woman whose death from ovarian cancer was allegedly linked to her long term use of Johnson and Johnson’s Baby Powder has been reversed by The Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District.
