Detroit Men Suing Attorney for Legal Malpractice

. By
Pontiac, MIThree Detroit men who were mistakenly arrested for looting during a humanitarian effort for Hurricane Katrina have decided to file a legal malpractice lawsuit against a Birmingham, Michigan attorney, the Detroit News reports.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">According to the complaint, which was filed recently in Oakland, Michigan Circuit Court, the men allegedly traveled to New Orleans in September 2005 with relief supplies to assist residents who had been affected by the hurricane.

The men claim they were arrested by Calcasieu Parish sheriff's deputies in Lake Charles, Louisiana, while on their way to New Orleans.

"They tried to get the police to call their church and find out they were on a relief mission, but no one would listen to them," said the current attorney for the men.

In the malpractice claim, the men say the attorney they hired to help them after their arrest tried to accrue the maximum possible publicity from the case by hiring two public relations firms. The men claim the attorney then neglected the case, according to the complaint.

According to MyFoxDetroit, the attorney being sued recently represented a murdered exotic dancer in the Detroit area.
