The Pain of Kugel Mesh continued...

Seattle, WA[Ginger Waterman] was not the only member of her family to have a Kugel Mesh Patch implanted to repair a hernia. Her mother had the same surgery in 2002 complete with Kugel Mesh Patch, and immediately experienced health problems, including the same symptoms that Waterman complained of. Waterman reports that her mother had "infections, fluid build-up and discomfort" following her surgery.

In 2004, Waterman took her mother to the hospital. "We were told that she had a cancerous fluid from head to toe," Waterman says. "It was a rare, unusual fluid that the doctors could not identify. They gave her six months to live, but she passed away in ten days." Waterman's mother died approximately a year and a half after her hernia surgery.

Waterman says they do not know for certain that the Kugel Mesh Patch caused the fluid. "But we do know that she accumulated the fluid in the area where the patch was," Waterman says. "The doctor was draining fluid from there."

"I hope I can prevent this from happening to someone else," Waterman says. She has dealt with physical pain, financial hardship, the death of her mother, and having to find a new job all since having a Kugel Mesh Patch implanted in 2001. Waterman also notes that she has been in extremely poor physical health since she had her first hernia surgery.
