Toy Giant Mattel Recalls Nearly 11 Million Toys

. By
New York, NYWith the Christmas consumer rush about to get underway, giant toy manufacturer Mattel has announced a massive defective product recall , of nearly 11 million products sold throughout the US and Canada. The products in question carry the lauded Fisher-Price brand, and were in stores up to and including September, according to a release by the company.

"In collaboration with the Consumer Products Safety Commission, Health Canada and other regulators, we initiated the recall process for certain products," said Fisher-Price general manager Kevin Curran, in a statement. "And we're reaching out to parents to help you determine whether you have a recalled product and how to get a replacement part or repair kit."

According to the statement, one of the toys being recalled is the Fisher-Price Trikes and Tough Trikes toddler tricycle due to injuries reported when children fell against a protruding plastic 'ignition key' inherent with the toy. There were ten such injuries reported. Mattel, as a result, is voluntarily recalled seven million toys in that particular product line—the largest aspect of the overall voluntary recall.

"Many of us here at Fisher-Price are parents too, myself included," said Curran, "and we share your belief that nothing is more important than the well-being of our children."

In addition to the toddler trike line, New-York-based Mattel is recalling 2.8 million inflatable balls due to a choking hazard. High chairs and toy cars have also been recalled.
