Oil Spill in Kalamazoo River Threatens Lake Michigan

Battle Creek, MI Crews are working to clean up an oil spill resulting from a broken oil pipeline that has contaminated a major river in Michigan. According to a report on MSNBC.com, Governor Jennifer M. Ganholm is warning that if the oil reaches Lake Michigan, only 80 miles downstream, it could be a "tragedy of historic proportions."

Is Radioactive Fish Cause for Concern?

Montpelier, VT In January, officials announced that the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant leaked tritium and other radioactive substances into the Connecticut River and this month, officials revealed that strontium-90, a very dangerous isotope that is linked to bone cancer and leukemia, was found in the soil. It may also be in the river. It is yet to be determined whether this leak is an environmental concern.
