"My artificial hip is always sore and stiff and I have less flexibility than before surgery," she said. Because Carol is concerned that she will need revision surgery, she is hoping to join one of three (so far) DePuy Hip Canada class-action lawsuits.

"The pain now is worse than before my surgery," says Andrew," and to make matters worse, I have elevated cobalt steel ions in my bloodstream from this DePuy ASR and that can cause more problems."

Toronto, ON It was early in 2006 that respected Globe and Mail columnist Margaret Wente wrote about the trials and tribulations of hip replacement. Afflicted with arthritis, the active Canadian was barely 50, and in constant pain. X-rays showed the cartilage in one of her hips was gone. There was little room for optimism until, when doing research on hip replacements, she hit upon a new kind of hip replacement manufactured by DePuy Canada.

Saint John, New Brunswick Several DePuy hip replacement victims in New Brunswick are the latest Canadians to join the DePuy Lawsuit against DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson. The company recalled its ASR series hip implants last August after receiving reports of patients requiring revision surgery shortly after having a DePuy ASR implanted.

Halifax, Nova Scotia The saddest aspect about a hip replacement system that fails is the fact that not all recipients are elderly, or even middle-aged. And a DePuy Canada class-action lawsuit has demonstrated that patients in their late thirties have felt the pain from a failed DePuy hip replacement, together with the sting of frustration stemming from a loss of functionality.
