State Agency Wins More Than $230K in California Labor Code Dispute

. By
Los Angeles, CAA Los Angeles Superior Judge has ruled in favor of a Los Angeles-based attorney in a California labor code lawsuit against a local real estate development firm.

span itemprop="image" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageObject" style="display:block">The suit was filed on behalf of Jaqueline M. Fabe, an attorney who briefly worked as an in-house attorney for Cahuenga Partners and was denied due wages upon her resignation. Fabe filed a wage claim with the local courts, in response to which the company's managing partner, Ron Hacker, filed a malpractice lawsuit.

Fabe went on to file the retaliation suit against Cahuenga in September 2005. This past week she earned a $232,435 judgment.

Fabe's winnings include funds to cover four years of attorney fees, as well as back wages and court costs.

"This judgment sends a clear message to California employers that we will employ every means possible to seek justice for employees who have suffered retaliation," California's Labor Commissioner Angela Bradstreet tells Occupational Health and Safety Magazine. "We will vigorously enforce the anti-retaliation provisions of the labor code so that employees are protected under the labor code."
