Rockville, MD A commuter bus accident in Maryland has left one person dead and several others injured. The crash occurred Wednesday afternoon, after the bus fell 45 feet off a skyramp of the Washington beltway, landing on Interstate 270 directly below.

London, UK Jimi Heselden, the owner of the Segway Company, suffered a fatal accident on Sunday, when the Segway he was riding fell over a cliff and into the Wharfe river according to media reports, his body was discovered by a passerby around 11:40 am in the Bostan Spa area of North England.

Redwood City, CA Three people were killed in a plane crash in California, including the 91-year-old founder of an East Palo Alto steel company, Robert Borrmann, of RE Borrmann's Steel Co. The other two people have been identified as the pilot and the pilot's girlfriend.

New Orleans, LA An oil rig exploded this morning in the Gulf of Mexico, roughly 80 miles off the Louisiana coast in Vermillion Bay. All 13 people on board the rig were rescued from the water by a commercial vessel. The latest reports indicate that one of the rig workers was hospitalized with injuries. It is not currently known whether the rig is leaking oil.

Los Angeles, CA: Three people have been killed in an accident involving a truck that flew off California State highway 154 and landed on their house, completely crushing it. The dead, a man, woman and child, were inside their home in Santa Barbara County at the time of the accident.

Lucerne Valley, CA Eight people are dead and another dozen injured after an off-road truck lost control and drove into the crowd at a race known as the California 200. According to The Associated Press (08/15/10), the truck crash came shortly after the race began, in the Mojave Desert. Officials said it took rescue workers more than 30 minutes to reach the location.

St. Louis, MO A multi-vehicle accident involving two school buses, a tractor trailer and an SUV has left two people dead and possibly as many as 50 people injured, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Department. The bus accident happened about 40 miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri, in an area known as Gray Summit in Villa Ridge, between 10:15 and 10:30 am Thursday, August 5.

Montcoal, WV A deadly explosion yesterday afternoon at a coal mine in West Virginia left 25 miners dead and four missing. Search and rescue efforts are underway to free the trapped miners, but are hindered by the presence of poison gases.
