Students Sue Everest College in Salt Lake City

- by

Washington D.C.A lawsuit against Everest College in Salt Lake City reveals yet more problems for students attending for-profit colleges. Three surgical technology students allege that they were misled about the school's accreditation, transferability of credits and the cost of the program.

"They believed they would be able to complete the core programs at Everest and then transfer to a university later on," says attorney Melanie Williamson from the firm of Tycko & Zavareei in Washington D.C. that represents the students in a Utah class action suit.

The students planned to use the surgical technologist certificate as a stepping stone to nursing or to medical school. However, after graduation they discovered that the thousands of dollars spent at Everest would not help them advance to other post-secondary colleges or universities.

Administrators, according to the suit, told students the courses were accredited, but failed to tell them that universities and other post-secondary institutions generally do not recognize credits earned at Everest College.

"They have to start over from scratch," says Williamson. "They have to retake all those courses they took and paid for at Everest. It is as if they had never taken the courses at all."

The complaint alleges Everest uses a "hard sell" enrollment pitch that leads potential students to inaccurate conclusions. "It is a for-profit college that is responsible to shareholders, and the value of the shares is directly influenced by the number of the students enrolled at the school," says Williamson.

"Two of the lead plaintiffs in the suit are single mothers," says Williamson. "One of them has three children. She is going to have to put out a significant amount of money for courses she has already taken. Who knows whether she will even be able to do it all over again?"

The suit alleges that Everest College violated the Utah Consumer Protection statute. The students are asking for damages for the costs associated with attending the school. They also want to see that the school is prevented from misleading other students.

"They don't want others to fall into the same trap," says Williamson.

Williamson adds she believes that there are other students who also would be potential class members and may join the class action.

Melanie Williamson is an attorney with Tycko & Zavareei in Washington D.C. She is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. She has expertise in civil litigation and civil rights law.

I had attended the college, graduated the class of 2008 in west valley, Utah. they had told me when I attended that I was a non existing student since one of the staff member did not turn in my forms and told me because of this I was now responsible to pay out of pocket, they did refuse me my diploma which I then informed them I will contact the corporate office, the next day they called me to pick up my diploma. To this day I have not received a tax refund as they have been garnished for student loans and outstanding debts due to the paper work not being submitted on time.

OMG the stories! I'll be quick. Yes I have a felony but wanted to do something I enjoyed so I applied at Everest for the massage therapy class. After applying and getting loan approvals, etc. I was called in and told I could not take this class because of my felony. Even though they did a background check and knew my charge they said I couldn't do massage therapy because I could be done sort of molester! I said you know what I did, it has nothing to do with a sex crime it was a theft! So they then talk me into taking a different class, tell me it's easy and cheaper also I'll make more money! So after a few weeks of this I'm like wait, I came here to do something I enjoyed, something I chose. I'm not happy, this isn't what I want. And by the way no one will hire me doing billing and coding having access to people's IDs, and money with a freaking theft charge-hello! Still today years later they send me threats and bills! But you know what! They are still trying to charge me for the more expensive massage therapy class! So catch me if you can mthr does!????

I would love to be apart of this! I got out of prison February of 09, at which time I decided I wanted to get a degree in somthing. I ended up going to Everest located in Thornton Co, to get information.; I was very upfront; from the moment I started talking to the admissions lady, about my charges/felonies and extensive parole and probation obligations for the next 5 years. She was more than aware that I did not want to waste my time investing in a career that I could not benefit from. I just wanted to succeed on my new path and not have to wait tables for the rest of it. She informed me that my past would not hold me back and the school had a job placement program. She made me feel confident and excited about starting a new career. So I enrolled November 09 and by October 10 I was doing my externship. A week before I completed my externship the company manager informed me that they were not going to hire me when it was completed because of my background. So you could imagine my surprise, after I informed the admissions lady I was not going to get hired. Whom knew so much about my concerns from day 1, took me to a room with a few computers and told me to get online and apply at all the MIBC jobs I could find online.'That was not how I expected the job placement program to work.'; Now I have $16,000 in school loans that are in collections because I have a minimum wage job I can't afford to pay it back, preventing me from being able to go back to school for anything else.; To top it all off after 6 years decided to start taking my tax return.'; I'm not trying to get involved in hopes of getting money for all the stress and headaches, in convince, or discouraging feelings that occur often about my not so bright after all future. I just want the debt to be wiped clean so I can try to move; on from this.

I was misled to believe that my college credits was tranferable to any college but that was not the case. None of my college credits were transferable. I had to pay Everest out of pocket too. I want to join the law suit.

Please help me. I went to Everest College in Las Vegas/Henderson and my whole life is ruined. I have so much debt I can't breath half the time, and I can't even use the degree. They never helped me with a job but they took out tens of thousands (about 60,000+) and with interest I'm over my head.
My credits didn't transfer so I have to redo everything and since they took every penny of student loans plus private loans.
I was so young and stupid, I just signed whatever they told me, and they didn't in the middle of my classes. (They would pull me out to sign whatever paperwork)
I even had to pay for books out of my pocket because I was told that I couldn't get enough student loans. WOW.
I need help! A lot of help.

I graduated from Everest in 2010 with AA degree in Medical Billing & Coding. They kept my degree said I have to pay school fees of $1,866. I'm in debt of $43,400.66 of student loans and I don't even have my degree only transcripts they gave me. I'm paying $57 to Immediate Credit for a $10,000 that started out with Sallie-Mae. Then there's still Navient with other payments they're asking for.

I graduated from Everest 2009-2010, with a Medical Assistance Diploma. I was hired in my internship, but because of financial issues in the practice, I was let go. In looking for work in the Medical field since then, I am turned down due to my felony (nonviolent or drug related). Before enrolling I questioned, if I could still get a job in that field with my felony & I was told YES. It has been since 2010 that I have yet to work in the Medical Field. I went to Kieser University & they told me my credits was not transferable, so I would have to start over. I would like to join the lawsuit, because I have to pay back a Medical Assistance loan & I can't work in the field. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP...btw...my felony is 14yrs old & they still won't hire me. If I can't join lawsuit, Are there any Medical Assistant jobs out there that will hire a 14yr old felon who is not a repeated offender & who wants a career to better her kids life. Can I Please have my Second Chance to prove my worth.

My daughter expressed interest in attending Everest Online around 2009. She was contacted daily and pushed into attending. She was told that I, as her mother, would need to apply for a parent-plus loan. I personally informed the sales agent (her true title, in my opinion) that my credit would not allow me to qualify for a loan. She told me all I needed to do was apply and be rejected so that my daughter would qualify for financial aid. The sales agent contacted me to "confirm that I was in fact denied"......3 years later my tax return was offset in the amount of close to $4,000...my credit report reflects that I still owe $70. Fast forward to 2015, and my credit report now shows that I owe over $3,000 YET AGAIN. My daughter never saw a dime of this alleged loan, and had to pay out of pocket for her books and supplies, etc. This was a complete scam from day one!

I started with Everest Online in Florida in Feb. 2009, getting my AA degree in Accounting. I have always had problems with financial aid. They had people in there that didn't know what the heck they were doing. Well I did graduate in 2011 or 2012 in October. I went thru so much with this school, with people not calling you back, and receiving your checks late.
So I decided to go back to Everest Online in Florida to get my BA degree in Accounting. Still having trouble with financial aid. And I had problems with some of the teachers, whereas they were rude and didn't help their students. I had failed a class and retook the class and passed it with a B and I asked if they were going to take the fail off my transcripts and they said no. I did check with a dean with another school and he said that they should take that off my transcripts because I retook the class and passed.
Well I finished in Jan. 11, 2015 and I was looking for a ground school in california so I can join in on their commencement ceremony. Ok I found a ground school in Ontario and the graduation was going to be on May 2nd at 100pm. I went to the school on April 28th after my uncle funeral. They were kind of rude, but some guy came out and asked for my name and then he told me that the graduation was cancelled. I am looking at him are you serious. Yes due to the school closing we can go forward with the graduation. Now I have sent out announcements and posted it on fb and told other people. It hurts so bad because I did all this work and stayed up nights and weekends and I can't march and get my degree. People look forward to special things like this. And why did they wait until 3 days before the graduation day.
And I thought that your payments were suppose to happen when you have been out of school for 6 months, well it's only have been 2 months and my first payment was due April 1st. So they have lied about that too.
So I would like to join in on the class action law suit against Everest.

I am interested in joining the class action lawsuit against Everest. I attended Everest for the 2 year degree in Medical Billing and Coding. This was a total hoax. The pressure you to take out all kinds of loans. You are misrepresented about being able to find a job and externships. The credits are not transferable. I am in thousands of dollars of student loan debt with a degree that I can't even land a job. We should be compensated for this pain, suffering, and debt.

I attended Everest College in Chicago Illinois, I studied MIBC took the course when it came time to do the 4 week training they sent me to other places that didn't have anything to do with MIBC now they are taking my income tax for the loans wanting to know if I am eligible for a class action law suit and if there is one pending and how to go about getting in on it

I went to Everest College in Dallas in 2005 for Criminal Justice. I even used my military benefits and still had to take out loans. Unfortunately I had to quit because I couldn't afford it as a single mother with no job. Then, in 2007 I took classes online and received an Associate's Degree in Business Management. I wasn't able to land a job at all. So, I am stuck with $43,000 in student loan debt. Thank God my husband makes over $100k a year I am able to repay it. I hope Everest get what's coming to them and will be even happier to get rid of this debt I've been paying on for years. People shouldn't ave to pay for a degree that's worth nothing after you graduate.

I started a Everest in 2007 in Salt Lake City UT. I had a few run ins with the law and was looking for options in furthering my education and staying out of trouble at the same time. While being a felon, you can imagine how hard it was, being turned down by every school that interested me. I had glanced at Everest and filled in my info online to read further about medical assisting program. I was immediately contacted by someone telling me they had only a few openings left and I needed to come in for testing right away if I wanted to secure my spot. I explained my criminal background and they assured me that it didn't matter and they had contacts with ppl in the medical field that would hire me after graduation. I was so excited I drove 3 and 1/2 hrs to SLC the next day to take my test and see what they had to offer. They told me to fill out some paperwork to see what I qualified for with loans and told me I had been approved within an hour of being there. I asked questions about credits transferring if I was able to get my record cleared up and was told they would all transfer. They said they had accreditation and most places were looking at them like a real university and taking graduates from Everest over other schools. I wanted nothing more tgan to go to college and have a degree. I was a single mom of 3 with a newborn and no job. I told them I wanted to think about it and they kept pressuring me that onky a few spots were left open for this next class and they didn't want to see me have to miss this opportunity. I left and received a phone call before I got on the freeway and another before I got home. The lady told me they had just filled two more spots and there was now only 2 left. I talked with my mom and she was very concerned but I was so ready and wanted thus so bad. I drive back the 3+ hours the next day to sign the papers and ensure my spot in the program. They told me I would be guaranteed a job afrer graduating and wouldn't owe any money until I had a job so they would be sure to get me placed very quickly. I was so young and dumb. I didn't even think to check them out further as I was being called repeatedly that my spot would be gone. Little did I know that my felony on my record would definitely hinder my chance for ANY medical field position. I am now 8 years later, no longer a felon but 2 years of school wasted, in debt, and no medical job or experience.

I went to everst college in skokie, il. I was promised work after I graduated. That didnt happen. On top of that I had to deal with my computer teacher, who was a pervert, to every woman in his class. And when I went to take my ncca test, after I was done, my teacher tells me oh ill make sure you pass. He had changed my grade also the other lady that took the test with me. I studied so hard to pass and I know for a fact I would of passed without his help. I was so glad to get out that school. It was a joke. And I didnt find a job with there help. They did nothing to help. Also when I tried to further my education, no one would take the credits. Unbelievable.

I went to Everest Institute it was originally Rochester Business Institute when I first started there. I graduated from there in 2008 with an Associates in Applied Science and Math for Medical Assisting. I was told they were accredited to find out they were not when I pursued a RN degree from Genesee Community College and none of my credits transferred I was crushed. I have never been able to pay my student loans from Everest. This is due to the fact! I never could achieve a Medical Assisting positions due to my degree being a fraud. I have been deferring them since 2008 and now they are up to $18,000 I owe. When originally it was only $11,000. I feel as though I should never have to pay these Stafford loans back due to the fact it was all based off of fraud. I hope they shut down all of the Everest's out there and help pursue making sure none of the victims of the profit school ever have to pay our students loans back from Everest Institute.

This school used up my financially aid and is not accredited so my credits to transfer I now had to drop out of an accredited program because I don't have enough funds to finish!!! They lied about everything from start to finish!!! Now I owe 43k in student loan debt with nothing but a certificate from the school to show for it!!! SHUT THEM DOWN and make them pay for this. They take from us which in return takes from our kids!!! I have so much debt from this it cuts into our monthly budget!!!!!

I used my veteran benefits to attend this school and I still have a $15,000 loan for one year of books. I was advised that I would be able to go to graduate school after attending. Less than six months after attending Everest University in Jacksonville, I was advised by the Veteran Counselor that no graudte school will accept it and no cannot purse the program I worked to pursue. I used my government benefits on something that just wasted my time! This school should blacklisted from government funding and closed down.

I went to Everest from 2007-2010....I transferred in 99 credits and still had to go 3 years to graduate as my major took 'extra' credits to graduate (legal ).....Everest made sure they maxed out my student loans. I received NO help finding a job and thejob I have does not require a degree. Further, I tried to go another college for a different major and found that NONE of my credits from Everest were transferrable or that my degree was even valid when attempting to enroll in a local school for my Master's Degree. NowI am paying HUGE student loan payments and don't have a jog that can pay for it and I can't afford to go back to 'real' college to fix this problem.

Unfortunately your not the only one been lied too. They take advantage of people that are in a bad situation, like us, those that really need the help. I'm a single mom trying to provide for my babies and I and to have a better future for them. I'm from Florida, I graduated from Everest University in 2010 for Patient Care Technician (all for nothing).
They promised me, that for each class I was going to get certified and after internship was done that's when they give you the news, all the work just to get a certification for assistant nurse. I was very disappointed, discourage and confused, because I set my mind to be something else (a phlebotomist, wich is one of the classes).
That's when the real nightmare stared. I call Everest, to make the appointment to take my state test for assistant nurse certification, several times, but as always, the people that you need to talk to they're never in the office. I even went to Everest personally and as always no body is available. I feel that I waisted my time confronting them ( for nothing).
Tthe last time that I called them, they told me that I wasn't in the system and that there's no records of me. Hmmm, funny, but they keep calling me to make payments on the loan of $10,000. I don't that at all. All my classmates are in the same situation. So sad that people are so desperate to take away the little bit, that less fortunate don't even have.

I attended Everest Institute in Cross Lanes, WV for Medical Assistant. When I went to inquire about Everest, my mother and I were totally mislead. I was looking for an education that would help me get on my feet to later continue my education in the medical field. The first question I had was "Are the credits transferrable to other colleges/ univerisities?" The lady said absolutely! The second question was "Do you help job placement after you graduate and how much do you make starting out ?" The lady said absolutely as long as you do your part we will do everything to place you in a job making from $12-$14 an hour starting out. My mother was telling the lady, we will discuss it and get back with you. The lady insisted we go ahead and begin the process, just complete this and you can start this year, you will have no regrets. Today is the beginning of your future! After her assuring me that it was the best thing for me and my son and that I would be making decent money to raise my child, I registered.

I was a mother of a newborn and wanted to provide a good life for my son. I was a dedicated mother, wife and a dedicated student. I went to class everyday and took every break through out the day to pump milk for my son in my car (I apologize for being so blunt, but this is what I did to suceed or what I thought), I would stay up all hours of the night doing homework. I graduated as one of the top of class in my field. I did my internship (that I had to find the office to allow me to) then after graduating, I would call Everest and ask about placement they would say we are working on it. A month went by then 2 months with NO help from them. I finally found a job on my own at a Health Plus making $8.00 and hour part time. So let me sum my story up: I was totally mislead/lied to in every angle possible and not only was I left with over $12,000 of loans that I need to pay back, I missed the most important time of my baby's life for a certificate that I can't even make enough to provide for him. As if that is not bad enough - A year later I wanted to go to continue my degree in nursing hoping at least most of my classes were already complete (boy was I wrong), not only did I owe all that money in student loans, absolutely not one credit transferred. I had to start over from the beginning and get more loans. I feel that my loans for Everest Institute should be dropped or paid back by them not me.

I am a recent graduate of Everest University, (associates 3.95 GPA and honors), I was promised that the credits were regional and transferable to any school; as well as being able to walk with my classes in graduation LOCALLY. Come to find out near graduating--that there were no accepted locations to walk during my commencement ceremony, that the acceptance for that was changed months into my enrollment.
That upset me greatly. Nothing I could do about it, could not afford to fly or drive out of state to another commencement ceremony. So after graduating--job placement did nothing. Knowing that I wanted to continue on to my bachelors, I looked into transferring to a better school. NO ONE would take my transfer, I would have to start from complete scratch. So this enraged me. Also, making me stuck with Everest University to get my bachelors degree. On June 12th, I found out from several other students, media leaks, and suspicious text messages and emails from the school that Everest was shutting down, firing people, putting holds on finances, not recruiting new students. Hiding a lot of truth. I am part of 3 Everest/CCi communities on facebook where both higher staff and employees participate as well as many other students. Those who were asking questions and posting concerns ( including myself) were all deleted and BLOCKED, even from those groups of Everest not active in. After more allegations and media flying around--no one will answer phones, or questions. I have paid my life to this school.

Stupidly, because I could not transfer anywhere else and was offered a 15% presidential scholarship to re-enroll with them, I did. I didnt have many choices considering how far I went. I didnt want to start all over. So I am 2 complete terms in--one week from starting a new term. I am considering dropping out or taking an LOA and finding an attorney to sue them. I need legal help in a very bad way. I went to this school because I work, and am a busy mother who can not attend a campus college. I was completely shammed, lied too.. and taken advantage of. And ruined. Anyone that can help me?

I am currently an online accounting student with Everest and have just found out about all of this. My next term starts July 2014. I did notice that they will not take the credits I already have. I am now taking the same exact classes that I have taken before and now I owe $10,000 in student loans. They redid my loans for me for next term and those are supposed to be paid by the third week of July.

I was unaware of all this and now feel like I am taking a second set of the same classes all over again. After reading all of this I am really beginning to worry. I cannot waste my time. I have two boys and my boyfriend gets social security that we live off of because I do not have a job.

I sure hope this all gets worked out.

I attended Everest University online as well from 1/2008 to 1/2011. I got an associate in accounting from them. In my last year or so I was asked if I wanted to do the career path that's were the school will help your get a job in your field of study through the companies that they partner with. Once i graduated they sent me to career service were I talked with someone to start the process he emailed me a list of jobs with their companies and told me to apply to the ones that suited my field and then give him a call back so that he could send out the referrals. So I did just that and a few weeks later they sent me a release from to sign saying that I didn't need the career path or job placement. I called them and told them that I was not going to sign the papers and that they needed to do what they said they would do. Now it has been two years and nothing I am still working I dead end job and have loans I have no way of paying back. I want to know is there a way to make them do what they said they were going to do or can a sue them.

Please help

I enrolled here in 2007 and they definitely did rush me into enrollment. But after I was in class online by the way. I did some research on the school. I was sick to my stomach its like stealing money. Now I can't go to community college; Because of the stupid Bill Everest put through the government. Now I'm in default from a school I never even attend classes and it was all orientation for the first month so how can I owe so much money. Was there for two months, they have charged me 11,967. Like I am completely piss I just got better from a car accident I was really eager to go back to class. But I couldn't they want the payment in Full. I am just really stress out. This is not right I barely did any work they never drop me From the College. I figure if I didn't log in they kick me out. I was so wrong. I called said I wanted out she said ok sarcastically We may bill but it won't be alot. I said but I didn't even get out the next semester.Lies. Please Can a Lawyer email me back please! Thank you for reading.

I have been enrolled with Everest University for four semesters and I was getting small stipend checks. I received the checks six weeks after completing the semesters. I am a single mother of 4 and I have been unemployed and looking for work since I began at the school. I was really dependent on financial aid to help me better mine and my kids life. I noticed that I had a balance in the sixth week of this semester so I called to find out why. I was told that my Pell grant eligibility had ran out until the spring semester began! When I asked why I was not informed of this before I began the new semester, the financial aid guy immediately became rude and defensive and told me that he is is charge of over 400 students financial aid and that I should have called earlier! How was I to know that all of a sudden there was a problem with my aid? I had wondered why my refunds were so small, but at least my tuition was paid so I was just happy for that. I was never told the cost of my textbooks and never received anything showing where all the money from my grant or my loans were going. I had this same problem at Keiser university so I was skeptical when Everest first contacted me. They told me that financial aid would cover my tuition and fees, that is why I decided to enroll. Something fishy is going on and when I asked for details on my financial aid I was given the run around when I could see that things weren't adding up. Now I'm seeing people say that the credits are not transferable! I have been on the dean's list as well as the president's list. I have had to go to the library everyday to stay caught up in my classes because I have no internet. I have struggled and been extremely stressed out because I believed it would better my life in the end. I am extremely disappointed and upset at how I have been tricked into enrollment and misled. I also have a balance with the school now because of this. If there are any attorney's interested in this situation, please contact me.

My son decided not to take a class at Everest in Newport News, Virginia. Got out of the class before the deadline and they are hounding him about paying them back $3200 for a class that he never took. Has anyone else had this problem or know what we can do about it? If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

I went to Everest in Houston, TX for Medical Assisting. That was back in 2008. The school promised to help me find a job as soon as I graduated. That still has not happened since then, we are in 2013 now. I have had no luck what so ever......... When I would go to the school and ask for help the ignored me for about 30min. Then finally somebody came and he supposedly sent me 2 links where surely one of those would hire me. Bunch of bull****. So I tried calling them they would put me on hold forever. The teacher I had didn`t even care she passed everybody whether they did well or not. She never taught us like a normal teacher would. I worked my butt off from Mon-Fri. Then still go to school Sat and Sun. I never had a day off just to come and find out this place is full of nothing but scammers.....My luck. These people are heartless......

It's about my wife. She had a perfet attendance witj 4.0 gpa. Last time they call her and said that she was selected to give a speech in graduation n she replied them that she is is preety nervous about giving speech infront of crowds so she she turn it down. Next time she found that one of the student is selected and posted in fb that college called her and selected for valedictorian and offered her to give speech. The thing that disturbed her the when college called her they said about the speech only and not about valedictorian. And she called college back and asked them why don't they tell tell about valedictorian? Now college has come to the point that they made mistake but cant change any thing? For me too it's about her title and dedication. The main point is their is only one valedictorian all over the all field. We r asian its feel like the racial decremination. How I feel that way is when colle

I attended Las Vegas College later known as Everest College in 08-09 to receive a degree in Medical Assisting . As happy as I could be to be attending college so that I could better my families situation i put everything I had into it knowing it was for the best.! So faithfully attending life happened and I needed money to either fix my car or purchase a new one I figured I would get my pell grant in order to keep things going in the right direction . I go to the financial aide office and all I am hearing are bizarre reasons as to why I can't receive these funds, but I could apply for a Sallie Mae loan instead . So in trusting them I did just that but never got a cent it was applied to something else books or tuition? Life countiued to happen husband got laid off so on and so on we eventually had to move bake home so I was getting everything in order to move 900 miles home calling there local colleges so that I could transfer my credits and boom these credits are not transferable that's not what I was told! After hearing that I did a little research on thus school called a few prospects for jobs under the assumption that I had already graduated and was literally laughed at! My heart sank at that point I knew this school and all of its associates where a sham! Now I'm in debt up to my eyeballs which keeps adding up for services I was conned into purchasing with nothing to show for it! No way to get out of it!

I attended Everest from 2007-2008 in Chelsea, MA this school is a ripoff. They lie to you and tell you you can get a job, no place would hire me, they said the school wasbt accredited and didnt have enough training. At "graduation" they told me they had no record of me being on the Dean or Presidents list which I was. They "expelled" a student in my class for threatening to stab anothet student but ket him back in because he wrote an apology letter, thats not right. They also promise to get you an externship site to help your career. I took Medical Assisting and I ended up in the pharmacy at Rite Aid working the register and when I complained to career services, they told me they had to put me somewhere or else id be dropped from the program. I ended up working retail because no one would hire me. I am now on disability and my loans are in default and collections.

Corinthian colleges/Everest College mislead me about the price of tuition. They repackaged and charged me for a term that I had already graduated. I have all the information in paper work showing. They have sent me to collections and it is on my credit. They never gave me back my money left from grants. They mislead me about career services and job placement. I could not get into the college I wanted because my credit would not transfer and they assure me they would at the college I choose. I had to start over to get my bachelors. What should have been two degrees 2 diplomas but 3 times the time and 3 times the money comes out as 3.

I am leaving Everest on my own right now- thank GOD I only wasted 12 weeks but that was more than long enough. They told me my degree would let me go on to LAW SCHOOL a total out right LIE. I called the law school I want to attend and they said that they are NOT regionally accredited and it would be like I had no degree at all. REALLY? I would have wasted 2-4 years of my life and who knows how much money for nothing. I cant believe people can get away with this. I cant believe I wasted all of this time for nothing... absolutely nothing. What a freaking SCAM.

I enrolled in Everest in October of "2009". I researched for the best Accredited online Schools in Criminal Justice and came across EVEREST. I am a single mother with 3 children who had endured years of Domestic Abuse. I had tried 2 other colleges in this field previously but because I had to work to support my family online courses was the only way to better my future and also to get away from constant permanent layoffs from factory work. Everest told me my credits would transfer. I took out loans from Sallie Mae and also filled out my FAFSA to get the top amount available. now with less than 6 months to go for my Associates I am ready to drop out! I am so sick of the unprofessional demeanor of these people! The instructors are rude, and the financial aid department couldn't even give me an itemized printout of where my loans even went! I get a printout of a total sum given to the college but nothing that states how much teachers, classes, or even books are. I was told they could help me with internships when I signed up and as I live in Michigan the budget cuts are horrible. I asked several times where to begin, or even start to look for work in my field and I was told to research it! They didn't help. I have been working 70 hours a week at my job and keeping full time classes which I'm sure every online student knows takes hours of research, reading of textbooks, Discussion, Teamwork, and Quizzes in EACH individual class which most times takes as much time out of your day as a full time job! So imagine... You are a single mother, no family close to you, you have worked 70 hours in the week, your feet hurt and you are exhausted... There is dinner to cook, bills to pay, stories to read, bedtime, bathtime, homework for the kids, and with all you are doing to care for your family your MAIN goal is to SUCCEED and remain focused on your determination to educate yourself in your field! It takes time from your children and believe me many nights of maybe 3 hours of sleep before starting the next 70 hour work week only to find out that nothing transfers, Everything you were told was a lie. It's bad enough that you have taken out loans you can't repay but the rent is due and you have electric, gas, or other necessities to survive. Suddenly on top of it you find out every penny of loans you have had, and all of the time you have put forth to better your future has been a waste of time. What does this mean??? If other schools do not recognize EVEREST you just paid for these classes and lost out on years of your life struggling? You get nothing and have to start over which means your Associates at 2 yrs is really a 4 year endevour?!!! By this time you COULD have had your bachelors and had the better paying job to even be able to pay these loans! Not to mention... Your pride and self esteem in thinking you may have actually accomplished something in your life! Way to go EVEREST!!! You've totally proved everyone wrong who has told me that the struggles would be worth it! I only hope my kids understand when I haven't slept yet another night or missed a practice or school conference either from having to work so much to double pay these loans because I have to take my Associates again or having been studying for hours for a degree that no one takes seriously or doesn't recognize!!! At least I've learned through my Criminal Justice studies the importance and rights of free speech, because I certainly am not getting any sleep at night! I commend you on ruining my families pursuit of happiness!

I started having trouble with this school as soon as the merge took place. I was told that I will be able to go on with my education and transfer my credits. Not only that they told me that when I did get my degree as a Medical Biller/Coder, that I had two years to get state certified as a Coder, which would up my rate of pay. Every time I tried to communicate to the student coordinator if there was a problem, or I didn't have my code books for example to pass my Hospital Coding classes, it took almost 10 weeks to finally get the student coordinator to respond, and when they did, they wanted to know why I hadn't said something sooner. It's their job to coordinate our textbook needs, as this is why I went with everest because the books were included with the class I was registered in. This happened so many times. I was ignored and when they did answer my emails, they didn't even address any of my questions, I would resend and then they would inform me that He/She was no longer my Rep(Student Advisor/Financial Aid) that So n So was, and to contact them for further assistance. I feel lured into a bunch of BS and Lies just to get a hold of the Money, over 70,000 in loan and grant money, I feel like a sucker and my efforts to make that career transition at 50, was a big waste of time, and my kids whom I am trying to get them to go back to school think I am a complete idiot. I am serious about my education and being unemployed without reaching my goal, things look bad and now I have all this debt. I know what everyone who attended everest feels, its so frustrating to be patient for something that is never going to happen, If you are serious about your education, make sure they can transfer the credits, and if you have a state certifiable job, make sure your institution is Accepted and your education is worth something. I can't believe these shareholders can knowingly, intentionally stand behind a business what totally rips off the government to educate our future workforce with programs that won't get them into Camp Snoopy. How could they it's so un-American.

I attend Everest College in Aurora, Colorado. I have completed my classes at the top of my class. The last day of class, the day I was schedule to start my externship, I was presented with a bill for several thousand dollars. I had a contract on a payment plan stretched out over 12 months using an employee discount. The discount was revoked at the end of my classes and a charge for my externship was added. I was told to take out a loan all I cant go on my externship. They used threatning tactics to get money. I was in tears. They are very misleading and they preach at meetings how much they are there for their students and they want you to be successful. I lost externship site. I was approved for the loan through genesis and everest corporate will not sign off on it. I do not have several thousand dollars in cash to give them and I dont even know what these charges are for. I have alot more to say, but I need some legal advice. thank you.
