Basking Ridge, NJ A recent study performed by iamgreen.com suggests that the average mobile phone user will replace his or her handheld within a year of purchase. In the interest of combating this trend, Verizon Wireless has announced plans to double its early termination fee (ETF) to $350, the highest fee ever assessed by a major provider of mobile telephones.

Los Angeles, CA There's nothing like the telecom industry to get one's blood boiling when it comes to undisclosed rates and fees. Especially when said rates and fees are not disclosed. Late last month a nationwide class action lawsuit was settled by Total Call International Inc. with various plaintiffs in regards to prepaid calling cards. The settlement adds up to $1.9 million, with plaintiffs getting refunds.

To that end, a Chicago-based landlord has launched a Twitter lawsuit against a former tenant for a short message that, in its view, is defamatory.

El Segundo, CA DirecTV has become the latest company to face a media communications lawsuit. The company is being sued by customers who allege that it collected early termination fees without telling the customers it was doing so. Furthermore, the plaintiffs allege there was no valid contract explaining the fees.
