Austin, TX: A first responder misconduct lawsuit alleging police abuse was filed last month against the City of Austin, Texas. The plaintiff, the mother of a teenaged boy, alleges an officer with the Austin Police Department used excessive force on her son and is seeking $1 million in punitive damages.

Trenton, NJ: Four years and eight months after 20-year-old Toniquea Rivers collapsed at her parents’ home, a landmark verdict in a Trenton, New Jersey lawsuit found emergency medical technicians (EMTs) failed to ensure the new mother was properly intubated while she was being moved to a waiting ambulance and transported to a local hospital.

Philadelphia, PA: The Associated Press (AP 11/27/17) is reporting that the City of Philadelphia could be out millions of dollars as it moves to settle more than 300 police abuse lawsuits and other cases alleging misconduct on the part of police officers in the city and, specifically, members of a narcotics squad that resulted in at least two wrongful murder convictions, and about 1,000 other convictions that were deemed wrongful.
