New York, NY Merck may have buried data on Fosamax fracture risk, according to media reports of the second Fosamax (Alendronate) lawsuit currently before the courts. According to a report by Bloomberg.com, Paul Pennock, the attorney representing Bernadette Glynn, Merck knew there was a risk of bone brittleness and an increased fracture risk with the osteoporosis drug five years before it was made available to the public.

Washington, DC Two recent published articles in medical journals add continued focus on Fosamax side effects and other bisphosphonates and their relationship to brittle bones. The concern is a Catch 22, in that bisphosphonates are supposed to ward against brittle bones for patients suffering from osteoporosis. However, it has been determined that the usefulness and benefits of Fosamax and other bisphosphonates wanes following five years of continuous treatment. Further use of bisphosphonates beyond five years, for some patients, can be damaging to their health.
