Fluoroqinolone Antibiotics Require Black Box Warning for Heart Rhythm Side Effects

Santa Clara, CA: Fluoroqinolone antibiotics, including Levaquin, Avelox and Cipro, should have a new black box warning regarding the risk of heart rhythm problems according to Public Citizen, a prominent national watchdog group.

Woman Files Lawsuit Against the Makers of the Fluoroquinolone Avelox

Los Angeles, CA Bayer and Merck are facing a product liability lawsuit filed by a woman from Nebraska who alleges she developed peripheral neuropathy while on the popular antibiotic Avelox.

Fluoroquinolone Increases Risk for Permanent Nerve Damage, FDA Warns

Washington, DC The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued notice that it requires the drug labels and Medication Guides for all fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs to be updated to better describe the serious side effect of peripheral neuropathy (PN). This serious nerve damage potentially caused by fluoroquinolones may occur soon after these drugs are taken and may be permanent.

"Avelox Has Taken My Life Away"

Bristol, RI For anyone not familiar with the horrific side effects caused by Avelox, the following story seems unbelievable. How could an antibiotic destroy your health and family and leave you financially destitute? "Avelox has taken everything away from me," says Sue, a former nurse, mother of two and now divorced. "I put on my fake happy face for my kids, but as soon as they leave for school, I'm back in the couch. Whoever I was, is now gone."

Maker of Avelox Ordered to Pay Millions in Contaminated Rice Case

Stuttgart, AR A jury in Stuttgart, Arkansas, recently handed down a ruling that a unit of Germay's Bayer AG, which has been scrutinized in the past for Avelox side effects, must pay more than $136 million over a genetically modified rice strain.

Bayer Mum on Tendon Rupture in January Release

Ottawa, Ontario In January of this year, Bayer Inc. issued a press release touting the virtues of Avelox in treating Streptococcus pneumonia (SP). After treating 128 million patients worldwide, Avelox had been shown a consistent effectiveness against SP, the latter demonstrating a low resistance to moxifloxacin hydrochloride (Avelox). Given the concern over certain strains of bacteria developing a resistance to antibiotics, one can understand Bayer's bravado.

Avelox Side Effects Include Tendinitis
