Mississippi Department of Human Services

A class action lawsuit filed by the New York based Children's Rights claims that Oakley and Columbia juvenile training schools violated conditions of the schools after Hurricane Katrina. The lawsuit alleges students have been cursed by staff, subject to inconsistent discipline practices and fighting between themselves. Human Services is also being sued over its foster care system. The schools serve 550 youths at Oakley in Hinds County and Columbia.
