Toyota Prius Defective Headlight

The Toyota Prius is alleged to have headlight problems. Such problems reportedly include the passenger side headlight going out intermittently, both headlights going out and the headlights dimming with no warning. Some consumers say their car is less than two years old and the headlights have been replaced multiple times. In addition to being a potentially expensive problem, there are safety concerns linked to the sudden loss of headlights.

The issue is reportedly with 2005 to 2008 Toyota Prius cars with the HID headlight. According to an article at autoblog.com, the headlights and the electronics that go along with them can cost more than $1,000 to replace. So far, at least one lawsuit has been filed on behalf of a Prius owner.

Furthermore, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reportedly received more than 330 complaints about the Prius HID headlamps and has launched a preliminary investigation into the matter.
