Tollway I-Pass Erroneous Fines

A lawsuit seeking class action status has been filed regarding I-Pass fines. Plaintiffs' claim they were fined even though their accounts were kept up to date, and that they couldn't get through to toll operators after receiving the fines.

Tollway officials claim they have been deluged by fine-related questions which have overwhelmed their call center. The tollway is sending out 10,000 violation notices a day - the suit claims many of these were erroneous.

I had a temporary plate when I set up my ipass account. But wasn't aware I had to input the new license plate. Now its chargeing me tolls even though I had an active paid transponder the whole time. I now have a $300 fine for tolls my transponder should have paid. And they won't do anything about it even though they can see my transponder was active the entire time. Both license plates come back to the same make model and VIN number. This is a scam purposely set up to rip off the people of Illinois and its visitors!

The Illinois tollway is just another reason not live in the Chicago area. I was there as my 14 year niece had passed away. Not knowing that they changed all the toll ways and changed the way you can pay - I receive in the mail a fine for the $7 dollars owed in tolls which equated to $68 bucks - I paid it now I receive a new one for another car I had their to help out the family with the funeral and I was never contacted but now I owe over $300 for $7 in tolls.

Corrupt Corrupt state - What a joke! Keeping voting them in!!!!!!

auto tolls not working on 159th off I-294 East you have to pay over $1.50 regular toll before you get the go ahead, usually $2.00. When you pay online, they do not process payment, they send you out no payment letters and money is just sitting in account and not applied to license plates and unpaid tolls. Its illegal how they keep your money, do not fix their machines and do not give refunds for claims.

I used an ipass for many years when working in Illinois. about a year and a half ago,(years after my retirement) my son was going to a job and had to get off on a ramp that did not take cash (which he had in his hand). He called me immediately and asked me to contact the toll system so that he could pay the 40 cents. I spoke with a representative and told her that I still had my i-pass and could I add my son's license number to my account and she did and the toll was paid. And she sent me a new transponder because I had misplaced mine. So about 9 or so months later I am going through the toll near the wisconsin border with my 93 year old mother's car. About a month later I get a fine for $80 from the toll system. So, I call them and said that I was using the transponder that they sent me and this guy says to me that my transponder was inactivated due to lack of use 2 months after I reenactivated it ! Without my permission. they inactivated it after 2 months of not being used? I asked what happened to the $20 that was on my account he said that I would need to go to some unclaimed money in illinois ! But that if I didn't pay the $80 immediately that there would be a warnant out for my arrest. I paid the $80 and never got my $20 and I will never use the Illinois toll sustem again.

I was charged for 3 tools and fined $20 for each fine. I had my transponder in the car. It is a differnt licence plate which i have changed. But i never got fined before using the transponder in differnt vehicles. Thery say you have seven days to pay. Everytime i went on line to check which if any tolls i missed the info is never there. so you need to remember which tolls. They sure know which tolls you missed when they fine you. I think this is entrapment.

October 30 2015 I traveled through Iilinois from Michigan. I paid at several toll booths but now receiving a letter from Illinois tollway claiming I did not pay at 10 tolls and fining me $20 for each violation. I have read of the horrible corruption of their tolls and it must stop. I would like to fight this but I know it will take an army
