Smith & Nephew Defective Knee Replacements

Santa Cruz, CA: Allegations of knee replacement failure are being made against device manufacturer Smith & Nephew. In some cases people have filed personal injury and defective knee replacement lawsuits.

Claims against Smith & Nephew knee replacements state early failure and failure at an unacceptable failure rates. Specifically, the knee replacements are meant to last for between 10 and 20 years, but people who have these devices implanted may have to undergo revision surgery, and resulting medical expenses, pain and suffering and lost wages.

In 2010, Smith & Nephew recalled its Journey-Deuce Uni Tibial Baseplates, which rest on the tibia and attaches to the knee replacement hardware on the femur. Because these baseplates are breaking, the entire knee replacement can become compromised and unstable.

Symptoms people may experience if their Smith & Nephew knee replacements is failing include pain and limited range of motion. Most patients will require additional surgery to repair the damage.

Washington, DC: When the Smith & Nephew Journey Deuce Bi-Compartmental Knee System was introduced in 2007, it was billed as “a new, innovative solution that may give nearly 70% (sic) of all patients receiving a total knee replacement a more minimally invasive, bone and ligament preserving treatment alternative,” so stated a press release issued by the manufacturer on July 9, 2007. Would such platitudes, three years ahead of a knee replacement failure recall, placate any plaintiff filing a Smith & Nephew lawsuit? READ MORE

I had a knee replacement in 4/21 my Dr said both knees where bad but left worst than right had a TKR surgery came home same day, had a manipulation in 6 /21,all while still going to therapy and several Xrays later they said lets do a body scan, it showed something in the knee was not right . Fast forward to 5/23/23 will be getting a revision because it didn't take in the Drs words , I'm in pain constantly not able to even walk long.
My research lead me to find out parts were Smith & Nephew Journey ll this is ridiculous you think your going to be up and at it and you end up having to start all over again.

I had a smith and nephew journey left knee replacement on 12/14/21, the cement did not attach to the femoral component. It caused severe loosening and bone loss required a total knee revision surgery on 2/21/2023 (13 months) the doctor also delayed telling me about knee surgery failure.

I had surgery in 2020 my Dr. had pushed me into surgery and would not do any other type of knee surgery to fix issues she told me my knee was too far gone, she told me I needed to have a total knee replacement I was very much against it and tried to ask about the biological knee; she said it would not help and the hospital does not have that technology. This is where she pushed for the Smith and Nephew and stated it is the best on the market...I was a sitting duck she had to of known the recalls but, still stated this was the best company in the world, and stated I would be back on my feet in no time. However, right after surgery the pain was so unbearable I wanted to cut my leg off, and it never stopped I had nothing but horrific results I have no quality of life, I am a teacher and I had to quit my job and sit at a desk because I can not walk, I wear a leg brace for stability and have a wheel chair for far distances, I have been brutally treated by the health care system that just wanted I feel money, and made me an so invilent so they could play Dr. Frankenstein.

I had a total left knee replacement in October 2011;
Mine has never worked right; I’ve been back to the Dr who did many times with the same complaint! I’ve asked many times to him and his PA has the Smith-Nephew Gen 2 been recalled. PA told me that they were thinking about doing a recall on it but changed their minds. Mine is so bad I have to walk with a cane; my gate has never been right since I got this knee. I’ve had to have additional surgery’s not on my knee but due to my knee. Back Surgery, the drugs I’ve had to try to get through the day. Not to Mention I can’t bend it, kneel, sit down on the floor and just try to get up it’s not like it should be. Walk any distance, forget trying to go on vacation... forget it...you can’t walk! I HATE this SMITH-NEPHEW GEN 2... I have to have my left knee replaced and the DR thinks I’ll go back to him for it! He’s crazy... I’ll end up in a wheel chair if I let him cut on me again! I’ve told my Dr about all these problems since day 1; he just doesn’t care!

I had a total knee replacement in Fed. 2008 with a Smith & Nephew implant. I’ve had numerous injections due to fluid and inflammation since. I’m now having the implant replaced due to a shift in the position of the implant which is causing damage to my shin bone. Is my case something you might consider pursuing! My surgery is scheduled for 8/21/18. Thanks

I had a total knee replacement on my left knee in June 2015 with a smith and Nephew device. I had a revision in July 2016, because the lower part had loosened. A year later, I had to have the upper part replaced. I am now recovering from my third surgery in three years. It has been a bad experience, if I had to do this over, I wouldn't.

When I was going through rehab, I met a person that has three surgeries with weeks of mine. Same Doctor, Same Hospital and Smith and Nephew device was used

I am also checking to see if any legal action is being taken against Smith and Nephew.

Total knee replacement on my left knee in July of 2010 with a Smith & Nephew cobalt chrome device. I never regained full range of motion after surgery including a second surgery and a manipulation. I have been on disability since 2011. I periodically check to see if any legal action is against Smith & Nephew and found your site.
