San Antonio Bay Oysters Linked to Virus
Washington, DC: Investigators have linked a dozen cases of norovirus-related illness to San Antonio Bay-harvested oysters. Consumers are now being warned to avoid eating oysters harvested on or after November 16. The norovirus illness was found in cases in North and South Carolina. Noroviruses can cause gastroenteritis and are highly contagious. Symptoms associated with norovirus include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramping, low-grade fever, chills and muscle aches.
All oysters harvested from San Antonio Bay between November 16 and 25 have been recalled and the bay is now closed to commercial oyster harvesting. However, authorities are not sure how the oysters were contaminated.
