La Vergne High School Principal Melvin Daniels and outgoing Kittrell School Principal Joe Herbert claimed they were overlooked for promotions based on racial discrimination. The lawsuit alleged the two African American men were wrongfully passed up for promotions when they applied for high school principal posts as well as the job of district director. The Rutherford County School Board has agreed to pay the two a $57,000 settlement for racial discrimination. (Jun-20-05) [DNJ MIDSOUTH NEWS]
